What if I don’t qualify?

  • Contact your high school counselor to see if you can repeat any college preparatory courses that you may have received a grade lower than a “C” in. This can also raise your GPA.
  • Take the SAT or ACT again. The CSU will take the highest score from each sitting of the test to raise your total score.
    • Example: If you took the SAT in October and scored a 460 on the critical reading portion and 530 on the math portion for a total of 990 and then took the SAT again in March and scored a 500 on the critical reading portion and 510 on the math portion for a total of 1010, the CSU would combine the highest scores from each sitting of the test to give you a total score of 1030.
  • If you are missing courses altogether, you may be able to take an equivalent course at the local community college. Remember, one semester at the community college is equal to one year from high school.
  • If you are 25 or older or you are a military veteran, we may be able to admit you as an ”exception.” This means that you do not have to meet all of the regular requirements for admission. You must have graduated from high school or have the equivalent and you may need to submit SAT or ACT test scores.
  • Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) is a need based admission and retention program that also helps students who do not meet all of the admission criteria. If you meet the income guidelines for EOP and are admitted to their program, you will be admitted to Cal State San Bernardino.
  • Contact the Office of Admissions & Student Recruitment to schedule an appointment with an admissions counselor at (909) 537-5188. Some questions may be answered over the phone by an admissions counselor.
  • Please note: The university reserves the right and retains sole discretion to select its students and/or deny admission to the university. Admission exceptions are determined based on the applicant’s suitability and the best interest of the university.
